Bok Tower Gardens
“Go at least once a year to a place you’ve never been before.“ – Dalai Lama
And you should! I think I visit a new place at least every month. I’m trying to visit one every week, but sometimes it’s hard. Not impossible though.
Every time I drive to/from South Florida to/from Central Florida, Miramar to/from Clermont (yes, I do it a lot), I usually take US27. Sometimes I hate the Turnpike, it’s expensive and I feel I get to see the same things over and over again. Plus that’s been the route I’ve been taking for years with family.
On US27 I get to see more things, of course, then I have lots of traffic lights and sometimes it’s slow, but from where I live to where I usually go, it takes me the same time that if I take other routes. And that’s how I found out about Bok Tower Gardens.
When I get closer to Lake Wales, I usually see some signs telling me about this place. Naturally I was curious. I searched Online and found out it was a nice pretty place to visit. About an hour from Clermont. New place to see this week!
It’s easy to find it, plus there are various signs on the way to let you know when and where to turn. Once at the entrance, you get to pay for the Gardens and Tower and you can add the combo with the Pinewood Estate. I arrived by 3pm and the Estate closes at 4, they suggested me to skip it.
The place is really nice. I went first to the Visitor Center to grab a map of the area. Friendly staff and very helpful.
From there I started to walk to The Singing Tower. I could hear the music playing in the background. Very relaxing and a nice walk.
The tower is beautiful, you can actually see it from the US27. Well, at least part of it.
I stayed for a little while there, listening to the music and enjoying the view. There were people reading books and even taking a little nap.
Then, I continued my stroll to the ‘Window by The Pond’. A different place to see. It’s like a wooden theater where you get to enjoy a unique play. Nature. A pond, lots of birds and more. I was told by a lady that was having few snacks while sitting there, to stay a little longer and see. I actually stayed for about 10 minutes and I couldn’t see more. I was supposed to watch some alligators, more birds and even snakes. I actually saw more outside, few squirrels and more birds. At least no snakes. And in South Florida I get to see more alligators passing by the streets as a regular pedestrian, thanks to the Everglades.
I think this park is a nice place to visit while in Central Florida, if you want to do something different than spending a day at any of the Theme Parks. However, for me, it wasn’t a big deal. I read lot of reviews about Bok Tower Gardens and that’s why I decided to go. They are working on adding more gardens and recreational areas, I might visit it again once it’s complete and to see the Pinewood Estate, but not anytime soon.
Lake Wales is a cute town. I need to go back again to visit the famous ‘Spook Hill’.
