Ok… I love my Sunshine State, but there are times, especially during Summer time that rain doesn’t stop and let’s not talk about hurricane season. But oh well… I’ve been here for almost 19 years and not counting when I was coming during holidays, so I’m kind of used it.

not fun…

This following weekend, Memorial Day weekend, Trev’s family is visiting so we were thinking, what can we do that rain doesn’t bother us?. Because of course, visiting Florida you might want to go to the beach, a lake, enjoy a pool afternoon, walk around a park.. but with rain it is a bit difficult.

Here are some options that I’ve already done or visited and I think they are great for a raining day (or weeks, because today it’s been about 2 weeks with rain non-stop):

  • Museums:

There are many museums (indoor of course) that you can visit while in Central Florida. Orlando Museum of Art and next door you’ll find the Orlando Science Center.

Then you have the -not-so-common- museums as Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, Madame Tussauds Orlando, Chocolate Museum & Cafe and even a Titanic-The Experience, among other points around the International Dr. area.

  • Activities:

With kids? What about visiting Crayola Experience at the Florida Mall! Or a little bit more also for adults (why not?) Dave & Buster’s and Wonderworks, both at International Dr. The 1st one very well known since it’s around the country, you get to have lunch or dinner, play video games, billiards, shuffleboard or hang out by the bar. The 2nd one, it is easy to see since it’s a mansion up side down, they have many interactive exhibits that will entertain you and also teach you… they also offer a magic and comedy show.

iFly Orlando is another interesting and fun experience to do. You get to feel what is like to skydiving, indoors!

If you are staying at Disney World or close by, Disney Springs is not a bad idea. I mean, yes, it’s an open area so you might get wet, but you will also find a AMC theater to watch movies (even eat while watching a movie), play bowling at Splitsville Luxury Lanes, why not visiting some stores, hanging at some of the bars, maybe my favorite spot which it’s the Irish Pub Raglan Road where you get to enjoy live entertainment at all times. Plus you’ll fine so many restaurants that you can enjoy.

Just escape! What I mean is that there are some locals that you get to play with your group trying to escape something. For example, at Escapology you have 60minutes to solve puzzles and find clues so you can get to the key that will open the door to escape.

Sea Life Aquarium it’s another fun place to visit. Right there by the Orlando Eye and Madame Tussauds.

  • Shopping:

Ok… maybe not something super fun (at least not for me) but visiting Mall at Millenia or The Florida Mall could be another thing to do while it’s raining. I mean, those places are really big and so many stores and restaurants that might take you a whole day to explore, so why not during raining day.

As we always do when weekend is closer, we check the weather to see if maybe one of the coast will be sunny (either Tampa Bay area or Daytona Beach) so we can escape Orlando and relax over there. Also, from experience, unless there’s a hurricane on the way, it might be super dark outside, but it might also rain for few minutes and it will be done. So just keep an umbrella close by (or those famous ponchos from the parks) and enjoy your day.

If you have done something different on a raining day while in Central Florida, let me know! I might need more suggestions 🙂
