Discovering Spokane: what to see, where to eat & hidden gems

When people think of Washington State, Seattle usually gets all the attention… but after this trip, Spokane showed us a city that truly deserves more recognition. Located in eastern Washington near Idaho, it became a surprising highlight of our road trip through Washington and Oregon. Come along with us as we spend a few days discovering Spokane!

Before the trip, while searching for activities to do and places to visit, I remember saying that this town looks amazing! And it didn’t disappoint at all.

Boulder Beach

On this trip, I wasn’t traveling with my husband Trevor as I’ve been doing since 2016. Ana invited me to go with her to explore the PNW, and of course I wasn’t going to say no. We started AccesoTotal29 back in 2008 when we decided to create a space to share our travel adventures and simply see where it would take us. Living in different countries always made traveling together difficult, so it was really fun to finally do another girls’ road trip and explore a new part of the United States together.

Let me start by saying that, even though the Pacific Northwest is known for rain and gray skies, we only had one short rainy moment during the entire week. The rest of the trip was perfect for exploring. It was still cold for me :), most of the time gray, but it was all good.

Riverfront Park & Spokane Falls

The day we arrived at Spokane, we visited the Riverfront Park. It was built around the beautiful Spokane Falls. Walking through the park means constant views of waterfalls right in the middle of the city. It was amazing!

You have some attractions, beautiful views and restaurants nearby.

The SkyRide was a highlight—short but incredible, giving us an amazing perspective of the falls. We bought the tickets right there, no problem at all. At least during the last week in February.

Where to eat in Spokane

One of the best parts of discovering Spokane was definitely the food scene.

At Anthony’s at Spokane Falls, I tried rockfish for the first time and absolutely loved it. As soon as I knew it was from the North Pacific Coast, I obviously decided to try it. It was our 1st meal in the city and it was really good… plus the view to the falls was perfect!

We also enjoyed coffee and dessert at Made With Love Bakery. We tried coffee and some pastries including a cookie and everything was really good. Plus, even when they were about to close for the day, the staff was very friendly.

The 1st night we visited Barrister Winery to taste some local wine. The local was very cozy and friendly staff. From there we went to Iron Goat Brewing to try their local beer and a pizza.

For the 2nd night, last one, we had dinner at a burger place that it wasn’t that impressive but not bad either, Heritage Bar & Kitchen. However, I do remember loving their sweet potato fries!

We didn’t eat or drink at Steam Plant Restaurant & Brew Pub, but it was good to visited it.

We also visited the beautiful Davenport Hotel, to grab a drink at the Peacock Room Lounge. I think the hotel is a must, it’s so beautiful inside.

A quick stop in Pullman

We also made a quick stop in Pullman, a university town where we visited Knead Café & Pâtisserie and Ferdinand’s Ice Cream Shoppe, known for its university-made ice cream and cheese… which it was sooo good! I asked which was their best seller cheese, and it didn’t disappoint, it was so good! The ice cream shake I had it was also delicious… I didn’t mix the cheese with the shake though lol.

Spokane ended up being a wonderful surprise, and just the beginning of our journey toward Seattle.
