Cruise stop in Corfu? – What to do? What to see? What to visit?

We spent a few lovely hours exploring the charming island of Corfu, known by locals as Kerkyra (Κέρκυρα). It was a relaxed day where we simply enjoyed walking through its historic streets, discovering hidden corners, and visiting some of its beautiful squares and old churches. If you have a cruise stop in Corfu, don’t miss the chance to explore a bit of its charming old town, soak in the views, and maybe even relax at a beach before sailing away.

Cruise stop in Corfu

Even though our time was limited — just a stop during our cruise — we made the most of it. To wrap up the day, we headed to Ipsos Beach for a little taste of that Ionian coastline, and it was the perfect way to end our visit. I’d also recommend bringing aqua socks, since most beaches in the area are pebbly — it definitely makes walking around more comfortable.

I joined a shore excursion booked through the cruise that included a brief guided tour around town. After exploring on foot, I met up with my husband at the beach. He preferred to head straight to the water while I wanted to do a bit of sightseeing. Luckily, they offered two different excursions that ended at the same beach, so it worked out perfectly.

If you’re planning to do it on your own, it’s definitely doable. From the cruise port, you can take a taxi or local bus to Corfu Old Town — it’s only about 10–15 minutes away. If you’re heading to a beach like Ipsos afterward, taxis are the fastest and easiest option, especially if you’re on a time limit. Buses are available too, but they may take longer and require more planning. Just remember to be back to the cruise ship on time 🙂
